Lordship

  Lordship

-This study is designed to help make sure a person’s ‘life’ issues are dealt with before counting the cost

  1. Concept of Lordship.

1 Cor 1:2-9

  • ‘Lord’ is used 6 times in 8 verses. The 1st century church saw Jesus as ‘Lord’.
  • The word Lord means master, ruler, controller.
  • Are you ready to give Jesus control of your life?

Indeed the idea of “letting go” brings up many feelings for all of us. Let’s work through this together as we all are fighting to continue to live up to this calling.

2 Peter 3:17-18

  • Lord and Savior are connected in the mind of God.

Jesus is either Lord of all or not the savior at all.

2. Implications of Jesus being Lord.

Lord of your conduct.

  • A decision to repent of all of your sin for all time.

  • If you are willing, please share what you feel will be the hardest to repent of?

  • Are there any you are not willing to repent of or concerned about?

Lord of our time (Matt 6:33-34)

  • Meetings of the body.
  • Evangelism
  • Walk with God.

Lord and Savior of the biblically saved.

  • Disciples must have deep convictions of who is biblically saved.
  • Based on what we have studied to this point, do you see yourself as lost or saved?

Lord of the church.

  • Only folks who are biblically saved Christians are members of God’s church. However, we understand that this is not a conclusion that should be made lightly and without a lot of conversation.
  • Jesus is the head of the church, we submit to him (Col 1:18).
  • There are leaders in the church, and as they follow Christ, we submit to them (Heb 13:7, 17). Maintaining the balance between being a Berean while having a deep respect for our spiritual leaders. Following where they follow Christ and not following where they do not.

Lord of our dating life and marriage.

  • Dating and marriage can be awesome in the church.
  • But according to the Bible, we must marry and date only Christians (1 Cor 7:39; 2 Cor 6:14-18).
  • This is indeed a controversial topic these days, how does this sit with you? Any questions about that?

Lord of your job, profession or school.

Eph 6:5-9.

Lord of relationships.

1 Cor 15:33; Jn 13:34-35; Mt 10:37.

Lord of your discipling.

  • Discipling is the process of God forming Christ in you.

God and man disciple you (Mt 28:18-20; Col 1:28-29; Prov 9:8, 11:14, 15:10, 15:12, 15:22).

  • Explain discipling relationships in the church.

Lord in the midst of persecution.

  • 1 Pet 4:1-5 – Some may feel like your new life is strange. Hold onto Jesus being Lord and continue to have healthy conversations about what you have learned with those you love and invite them to be a part of this time in your life.

1 Pet 4:12-16 – People persecute the church with words like ‘cult’ (Acts 24:5, 14; 28:22). This is nothing new and we shouldn’t be ashamed.

Lord of your talents and gifts.

  1.

Lord of your money.

1 Tim 6:9-10, 17-19.

  • Be generous for good.
  • 2 Cor 9:7-8: be ready to participate in the weekly contribution.
  • Mal 3:10 – give out of gratitude for your salvation.

Giving is done out of a cheerful heart. We expect no one to give out of a sense of guilt or compulsion. Indeed this is also a part of Jesus being Lord of your giving.

Conclusion.

    1. Jesus is to be Lord of all (Luke 9:24; Luke 14:33).
    2. Live your life asking ‘what would Jesus do?’
    3. John 10:10: Jesus as Lord is the best life there is!
    4. Are you ready to make Jesus Lord?
